TMJ Treatments: Relieve Jaw Pain & Improve Function
or call us on
If you have noticed a clicking or popping sound when opening and closing your mouth, it may be a symptom of temporomandibular joint dysfunction – more commonly referred to as TMJ dysfunction.
Your TMJ acts as a hinge, connecting your jaw to the temporal bones in front of each ear. Problems with this hinge can result in pain in the joint and muscles that control jaw movement.
Symptoms of TMJ dysfunction:
- frequent headaches
- neck aches
- tooth sensitivity
- sinusitis
- ringing in the ears
- grinding your teeth
- pain in your jaw muscles
The most extreme form of TMJ dysfunction involves an arthritic condition of the jaw joint. If left untreated, it can adversely affect the teeth, gums and bone structure of your mouth.
Fortunately, we can help and have a range of treatments available. These may include physical therapy, muscle relaxants, heat and ice therapy, medications and the use of a mouth-appliance when sleeping.
